What is Sports Massage?

Sports massage is generally using a firmer technique than a therapeutic massage, it is the management, manipulation and rehabilitation of soft tissues of the body which includes muscles, ligaments and tendons.

How deep the massage is applied depends on the reason for the sports massage & the desires of the recipient.

To benefit from a sports massage you do not need to be a sports performer. The benefits can also help relieve many day to day problems that everyone experiences.

Different techniques are applied depending on the treatment required, including:

  • Neuromuscular Techniques (NMT)

  • Soft Tissue Release (STR)

  • Connective Tissue Massage (CTM)

  • Lymph Drainage

  • Active Isolated Stretching (AIS)

  • Ultrasound

  • Taping and Strapping

  • Hot Stone Massage

  • Medical Acupuncture

  • Electro-Acupuncture

  • Joint Articulation

The combination of this with additional remedial exercises can improve training quality and overall sporting performance. As well as injury prevention it can also help in injury rehabilitation and is very beneficial in pre-event, during event, and post-event situations
